The Mardi Himal Trek is one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets — a short yet incredibly scenic adventure that offers dramatic views of the Annapurna range without the heavy crowds of more popular routes. Nestled just east of the famous Annapurna Base Camp trail, this trek takes you through lush rhododendron forests, peaceful villages, and along high ridgelines that lead to stunning close-up views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Mardi Himal, and Annapurna South.
Perfect for trekkers looking for a quieter, less commercialized experience, the Mardi Himal route feels refreshingly untouched. You’ll walk through serene forests alive with birdsong, pass grazing yak pastures, and stay in small, locally-run teahouses where the hospitality is warm and simple. The highlight of the trek is reaching Mardi Himal Base Camp at around 4,500 meters, where the sheer beauty of the Himalayas will leave you speechless.
Despite its remote feel, the Mardi Himal Trek is relatively short and manageable, making it ideal for beginners with moderate fitness or experienced trekkers looking for something unique and peaceful. With the flexibility to be done in 5 to 8 days, it’s an excellent choice for those with limited time who still want to experience the magic of the Himalayas.
While the Mardi Himal Trek is considered moderate in difficulty, trekkers should still be physically prepared for continuous walking over several days, with some steep and uneven terrain. The altitude gain is gradual, but the highest point at Mardi Himal Base Camp is around 4,500 meters, so it’s essential to go at a steady pace and stay hydrated to avoid altitude-related issues. Weather in the mountains can change quickly, so proper layering and gear are key to staying safe and comfortable.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. This is your first day in Nepal, giving you time to rest after your flight or explore the lively streets of Thamel at your own pace.
