Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek is one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets — a short yet incredibly scenic adventure that offers dramatic views of the Annapurna range without the heavy crowds of more popular routes. Nestled just east of the famous Annapurna Base Camp trail, this trek takes you through lush rhododendron forests, peaceful villages, and along high ridgelines that lead to stunning close-up views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Mardi Himal, and Annapurna South.

Perfect for trekkers looking for a quieter, less commercialized experience, the Mardi Himal route feels refreshingly untouched. You’ll walk through serene forests alive with birdsong, pass grazing yak pastures, and stay in small, locally-run teahouses where the hospitality is warm and simple. The highlight of the trek is reaching Mardi Himal Base Camp at around 4,500 meters, where the sheer beauty of the Himalayas will leave you speechless.

Despite its remote feel, the Mardi Himal Trek is relatively short and manageable, making it ideal for beginners with moderate fitness or experienced trekkers looking for something unique and peaceful. With the flexibility to be done in 5 to 8 days, it’s an excellent choice for those with limited time who still want to experience the magic of the Himalayas.

Important Trip Note

While the Mardi Himal Trek is considered moderate in difficulty, trekkers should still be physically prepared for continuous walking over several days, with some steep and uneven terrain. The altitude gain is gradual, but the highest point at Mardi Himal Base Camp is around 4,500 meters, so it’s essential to go at a steady pace and stay hydrated to avoid altitude-related issues. Weather in the mountains can change quickly, so proper layering and gear are key to staying safe and comfortable.

While menus are simple, the food is nourishing and satisfying. Vegetarian options are readily available, and you’ll find locally grown ingredients used in many dishes.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in basic teahouses operated by local families. Rooms are typically twin-sharing with simple bedding and shared bathrooms. There’s no central heating, but blankets are provided. Trip Informations

The trail is far less crowded than other Annapurna routes, making it perfect for those seeking solitude and unspoiled mountain scenery. Spring and autumn are the best times to trek, offering clear skies and mild temperatures, though winter can be beautiful too if you're prepared for cold nights. Most teahouses offer basic services like hot meals and simple beds, and although amenities are limited at higher altitudes, the hospitality is always warm. It’s also wise to carry some extra cash, as there are no ATMs or card facilities once the trek begins.

FAQ's
